How Does Performance Monitor Work?
In some instances, your system might find itself grappling with tasks that surpass the resources at its disposal. Another scenario could involve your system’s efficiency being compromised due to malware infection. How to open Performance Monitor

In the search box enter Performance Monitor and click on it. Open Run and type perfmon, and click OK to open.
In the search box enter Computer Management and click on Performance.
On the left Pane, under Performance, you will find Monitoring Tools, Data Collector Sets, and Reports. you’ll find the navigation pane with access to Performance Monitor, Data Collector Sets, and Reports.
When you click on the Performance Monitor menu, you will see a pane showing a counter for the processor time.
The pane shows the processor load in the last 100 sec. But aside from this, you can also add other counters that can help you monitor anything on your system.
Let me show you how to add new counters
Do the following to add new counters: Please see Performance and Diagnostics in Microsoft Cloud with Azure Monitor.
- Click the green + button above the Performance Monitor graph.
- You can select your Local computer from the drop-down (Select counters from computer) or select the name of your system from the list.
- You can select from the list what you want to monitor and in this guide we will select Hyper-V Hypervisor.
You can select the counters you want to use the tool to monitor. If it is a counter that has instances you will be able to monitor one or multiple instances same time.
- After your selection, you can click the Add button.
Click OK to add any new counters and you can view the performance.
Another thing that you may want to do after configuring all counters you want to monitor is customizing all necessary details of the data shown in the graph. Follow the steps below to customize the Performance Monitor.
- Open the Performance Monitor Properties window by Double-clicking on any of the counters.
- Then select the counter that needs customizing in the Data tab section and you can pick the color, scale, width, and the style you want to use for the customization.
- Click Apply and OK.
Then under the Performance Monitor Properties, you still have other tabs like General, Source, Graph, and Appearance which you might want to customize as well.
