Windows OS type and version and build

Tn this article, we shall discuss how to determine Windows Version or Edition and Build. The steps below are ways to find out what build, edition and version of Windows 10 you are running. We are absolutely aware most people refer to Windows systems based on its major and version they are running. Please see Set up Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure, how to Install MSSQL 2019 Developer Edition and SSMS on Windows, and “Editions of MSSQL Server: What are the differences between various Editions of Microsoft SQL Server“.

To see how to display Windows system information via the Windows registry. Also, see “Windows Editions: Various Operating Systems available for Windows“, and “Microsoft SQL Evaluation period has expired: How to upgrade SQL Server instance“.

Winver Command

The Windows version and build can be determined using the winver tool. Here are the steps to gather this information.

- Click on run and
- winver and click on
- Click on Ok

This will display the About Windows containing the Windows 10 build, version, and Edition as shown below.

Alternatively, you can search via the window search button. Type winver

And this will display the “About Windows” as well showing the edition, version and build as well.

Please, see Linux basic commands, how to Backup image to TFTP server, and TFTP Image to Flash: Copying Guide for Cisco ASA.
