In this guide, I will be showing you how to back up and restore the registry in Windows. It’s very easy to go into your Windows Registry and make several adjustments but the fact remains that your system registry is very delicate to play with, any mistake on the Windows Registry can make your system malfunction and may even crash the system.  You can read more on How to add and modify the Windows Registry from the Command Prompt and how to Prevent Windows Users from Changing the Screen Saver via the Registry Settings and How to Get, Edit, Create and Delete Registry Keys via PowerShell in Windows

Note: The first thing to do is to create a backup so you can restore it if something goes wrong.

The Windows Registry is a hierarchical database that stores low-level settings for the Microsoft Windows operating system and for applications that opt to use the registry.

Follow the steps below on how to back up and restore Windows Registry. Here is an article on how to Unblock Microsoft Store on Windows 11. Below is a YouTube video discussing this topic

1. How to Back Up the Windows Registry

Search for regedit using the Start menu. Select the registry that you want to back up but If you want to back up everything, choose the root value Computer.

It is not possible to make multiple selections, you can only select one value at a time to backup, or you select Computer to back all registry files.

Right-click the value you want to back up and choose Export. Select your best location and always remember it in case you need to restore the registry file. The Windows Registry is saved in .reg file format.

If you have a lot of registry files in the backup folder confirm correctly you select the correct .reg file and don’t just run a random registry file you find online because this can crash your system.
