As a Windows user, you must have encountered update errors over the years. While some of these errors resolve themselves after a while of troubleshooting, others can be more challenging to fix and may require serious troubleshooting. Windows updates are vital for any operating system to function as intended. They play a key role in patching software vulnerabilities, ensuring that the system remains secure and operates smoothly.

Like every other system, you must troubleshoot like we have done above to determine what the issue is and to be able to resolve the problem. For example, reinstalling the printer driver, running a Windows update troubleshooter, or checking system files for corruption might work.
Run Windows Update Troubleshooter
Disclaimer! These steps will not solve this specific issue. But I want to show you how to use the troubleshooting tool to resolve Windows Related issues
Windows Update Troubleshooter is a built-in repair tool designed to analyze the underlying reasons and remediate typical update-related problems. When you encounter error 0x800f020b, running this utility can often identify and resolve the issue.
The troubleshooter performs a series of automated checks to detect glitches with the Windows Update components, services, or settings.
Press the “Windows + I” keys. From systems, click Troubleshoot.

Alternatively, from the System > recovery, then click on fix problems without resetting windows.

Click on Other troubleshooters.

1: Locate “Printer” and click on “Run”.

Select your Printer from the list of devices shown and click next.

The tool is scanning through your PC to detect issues

When a related issue is found, you will be required to apply this fix. Click “Apply the Fix” as shown below.

2: Locate “Windows Update” and click on “Run”.

As you can see below. Some issues were discovered but the system could not resolve them.

Method 1: Resolve Print install error 0x800f020b

Reinstall Printer Driver
Corrupt printer drivers might be the reason why the Windows update is failing to install. Thus, you should reinstall it altogether.
You can try updating the Driver! But most times, this does not work. Keep in mind that Device Manager is not the best tool to install the latest drivers, as it often fails to find them.
Therefore, we will uninstall the driver using the steps below.
- Right-click on Start and pick Device Manager
- Expand Print queues section
- Right-click on your printer and select Uninstall device

Confirm uninstallation

Go back to Windows Updates and check for updates

You uninstalled the driver, resolving the HP error message.

Note: At this step, if you no longer want to need the Prnter on your device, please proceed to Bluetooth and devices and remove the idle printer. But if you wish to use the printer, then install the Printer driver by downloading the latest drivers for your HP printer from the official HP website.
Click on the selected printer

And remove the HP Printer from your system.

Confirm the removal by clicking on Yes below.

Search for updates, the HP update error will be no more.

Install Printer Drivers
Like I said above, if you wish to use fix the issue, kindly follow the steps below to download the latest drivers for your HP printer from the official HP website.
Install the drivers on your computer even if the printer is no longer connected. The installer might need to extract and configure files necessary for future use.
Identify your device by entering the serial number

Down it and install it on your device.
Method 2: Use the Microsoft Show or Hide Updates tool
Note: Microsoft has a tool that allows Windows users to hide or block specific unwanted Windows Updates or Driver Updates. Using the Show or Hide Updates Tool, you can stop it from downloading specific updates.
You can download this tool (wushowhide.diagcab) from microsoft.com. Once you have downloaded the standalone package from Microsoft, run it
Launch wushowhide.diagcab.

Click on Advanced

Uncheck the Apply repair automatically

Click on Next to proceed.

The Show or Hide Updates tool will scan your system for updates

On the show or hide updates, select “Hide Updates”.

Select your Printer Updates from the list.

Click on Next to proceed

Click on Next as well. Remember we have unchecked the repair option above!

Resolving issues!

Click on Yes and close this window.

Run check for updates once again.

The update is hidden and won’t reappear.

To show this update again, launch the wshoworhide tool and follow through the prompts to show the updates. Then check for updates again. The problematic update will reappear
Using this tool will prevent the problematic driver or update from reinstalling automatically the next time Windows Updates are installed.
