To save energy, you might have noticed for those of your that utilize about three displays. Some applications are being opened on the display that is switched off etc. This can be very unpleasant as you end up switching on the display to be able to use the application. In this short guide, I will show you how to resolve this issue very quickly. Here are some related guides: How to install Microsoft Teams on a macOS, how to upgrade macOS Big Sur to macOS Monterey, and how to install Oracle VirtualBox on a Mac device. Additionally, learn how to unlink FaceTime from Mac. In this article, you will learn how to fix macOS Apps opening on the wrong desktop.

Note: The Tab arrangement under System Preferences > Displays has nothing to do with this behaviour.See this guide on how to add one or more external displays with your Mac.

The solution to fixing macOS Apps opening on the wrong desktop

You will have to head to System Preferences and then click on Mission Control uncheck the “Automatically arrange spaces based on most recent use” and “When switching to a space switch to one with open windows”.

systempreference

As you can see below, both are checked. You will have to uncheck “Automatically arrange spaces based on most recent use” and “When switching to a space switch to one with open windows”.

As you can see below, I have unchecked both options. And this should resolve the issue of having to have the apps opened in a different window.
