create an AMI using AWS console

In this shot article, you will learn how to create an AMI using AWS console. An Amazon Machine Image (AMI) defines the programs and settings that will be applied when you launch an EC2 instance. Once you have finished configuring the data, services, and applications on your ArcGIS Server instance, you can save your work as a custom AMI stored in Amazon EC2. You can scale out your site by using this custom AMI to launch additional instances. Please see Various ways to restart an AWS EC2 instance, and How to launch an EC2 instance.

Create an Amazon Machine Image

To create an AMI using an AWS console from an instance, follow the following steps below.

  1. Go to your EC2 console https://console.aws.amazon.com/ec2/
  2. On the left panel select Instances.
  3. Select the instance you want to create an image for
  4. Go to Actions
    – Image
    – Create an Image and wait for it to finish.

For related guides see: How to import Virtual Machines (VM) to AWS cloud as AMI, Create and mount FSx File System: Join EC2 instance to AWS Managed AD, how to sync S3 Bucket with an EC2 instance and how to create an AMI from the CLI.
