Import a user profile in Windows to another PC

Posted on 07/03/202022/03/2024 Christian By Christian No Comments on Import a user profile in Windows to another PC

This task was embarked on in order to export user profiles from one device to another for AssignedAccess (Kiosk mode). FrontFace Lockdown Tool provides this functionality by default. In this article, we shall discuss various ways to import a user profile in Windows to another Windows PC”. Here are some related articles: How to transfer data from an old PC to a new PC, How to Transfer User Profile to another User in Windows, How to transfer Windows license from one PC to the other on Windows 10 and 11, and How to Migrate Azure Web Apps.

Via the Windows Easy Transfer tool

Updated! The Windows Easy Transfer tool has been discontinued. It is worth noting that Microsoft accounts are relatively easy to move to a different PC.  With Windows 8, you have the possibility to sign in with a Microsoft account across all (any) devices.

That would transfer many of your settings. If this does not apply to you. Please see the other steps below to migrate a Windows Profile from one device to another.

Other Tools to Migrate User Profiles on Windows

In order to transfer your defined settings and local user profiles from an old PC to a new one, here are some tools that are capable of doing this.

  1. PCmover Express: One of the ways to accomplish this is by using the PCmover Express. Microsoft has partnered with Laplink to bring you PCmover Express which is a very tool for transferring selected files, folders, and more from your old Windows PC to your new Windows 10 PC.
  2. UMST: Helps backup and restore user data.
  3. SyncBack:
  4. Transwiz: It also requires a manual move of certain files. Transwiz can’t transfer a profile if you’re currently signed into it.

Alternatively, you could convert your Local Account to a Microsoft Account. I would not recommend this, because not all settings will be moved when you convert your local account to a Microsoft account.

See the steps for exporting and importing User Profile on FrontFace Lockdown Tool, and how to migrate Veeam MsSQL Database to a new MsSQL Server.
