How to Enable Find My Device on Windows 11

The ‘Find My Device’ feature inside Windows 11 can help locate Windows laptop or desktop computer when lost or stolen. It works just like Apple’s Find My Feature you can use to find your iPhone, iPad and other Apple devices. Android device have this same feature and can manage your device data remotely. With the help of your Microsoft account, it has the capability of syncing all your data to the cloud.

This Windows feature can help you locate the laptop, remotely lock it, and you can send a help message.

Please note that you will enable the Find My Device feature and location services on Windows after signing into your Microsoft Account. Enable Location Services on Windows 11

1.  Navigate or Search for Privacy & security. Scroll down on the App Permissions section and click on Location.

2.  On the Location page, toggle the button for both Location services and Let apps access your location to ON.

3. The next step is to switch the Find my device feature button ON. Windows 11 will be able to send the approximate location or address of the laptop or desktop.

Navigate or Search for Privacy & security. In the Security section click Find my device.

4. Toggle the Find my device switch to ON and after turning this switch ON, your system will always sync and send your computer location to Microsoft.

Microsoft Account can help you with the correct location data if your laptop is stolen or lost.

This is how you can track your Windows system when lost.

5. Launch your Microsoft Account Device page on any device either another computer or mobile device. Sign in with your Microsoft account and select your computer from the list of devices connected to your Microsoft account and click Find my device.

The current location for your computer will be displayed.

If you want to test what happens anytime you click Find on another device, you will see the below pop-up message each time you click which shows that the feature is working.

Why is Find My Device not working on Windows 11?

You need these two features ‘Location Services’ and ‘Let apps access your location’ to be enabled, all these can be done at Privacy and Security section. You will also need to enable the ‘Find My Device’ feature. Once all these are done you will be able to find your stolen computer.

Can you track a stolen laptop?

Yes, you can track it if the device is connected to the internet. When setting up the system it is better to register the device on the tracking system provided by the device manufacturer. We also have some third-party laptop tracking services you can sign up for and you will be able to locate your stolen laptop.
