How to create a password reset disk: Reset Windows Password

In this article, I will show you How to create a password reset disk which is a specially created disk or USB flash drive that can help restore access back to your Windows system in case you forget your password. Whenever you forget your password there will be no cause for alarm so far you already created a password reset disk using a USB flash drive or a floppy disk.

How to create a password reset disk on Windows

Connect a USB flash drive on your computer, and follow these steps:

Open Control Panel and Click on User Accounts. Click on User Accounts again.

2. Click the “Create a password reset disk” on the left pane.

3. Make sure you insert the USB flash drive to your Computer already.

4 Click Next and follow the Password Wizard.

5. Select the drive you want to use to create the password key disk.

7. Confirm your current account password. Click Next.

8. Immediately after you will see the progress to 100% completion of the Password Reset Disk Creation.

9. Click Finish.

10. Once you successfully complete all the steps above the reset password USB flash drive will be created. It is very important that don’t lose or misplace it because anyone with it can get into your account easily. Its advisable you keep it in a secure and safe place that is not accessible to others.

When you open the USB Flash drive you will see the file “userkey.psw”

Reset your account password with the reset disk

Connect the USB flash drive to your Computer and follow these steps:

11. Click the Reset password option.

12. Click Next to select your Reset Disk USB.

13. Select the Password Reset Disk you created earlier.

14. Reset the User Account Password with a new Password. This new Password will replace the old one and you will once again have access to the Computer.
