Windows profile is a set of files that contains all settings and user configuration files, folders (Desktop, your Documents) pertaining to you only, and registry settings. In an Active Directory or NT4 domain.

Your user profile folder is located in the Users folder on your Windows system drive, which on most computers is C Dirve (C:). In the Users folder, your profile folder name is the same as your username. If your username is Christian, then your user profile folder is located at C:\Users\christian as shown below.

Determine your windows username

1: Most times, you may want to know what your username is, you can always get to your profile folder using the environment variable %USERPROFILE%. You can read more on Environment variables in Windows 10. The %USERPROFILE% variable contains the path of your user profile folder.

2: Alternatively, you could use the “whoami” command as shown below to determine the username. See the following How to use the “Whoami” in windows for more information.

3: You can also use the echo command to display the value of your username “%USERPROFILE%” as shown below.

4: You can use the shortcode “Netplwiz” to determine your username in Windows 10. The etplwiz.exe. This executable file is a hidden tool that gives you control over the user accounts on your computer. see the following guides Windows Short Keys: Windows Administrative Shortcut and Windows Active Directory Short Keys – Windows Administrative Shortcut for more on Windows shortcut.

Search for “netplwiz” in the Windows search box of windows 10 as shown below. See this guide for more details on how to use PowerShell and Command Prompt tool for this task.
Note: You can also use the run command if you wish.

Identifying Your Windows Username in the User Account Window

This will display the User Account window and your username. If you have multiple users of this device, select from the list of users the right username you wish to know. As you can see below, I am the only user of this device.

5: Lastly, you can the task manager to determine your username by following the steps below.
– Hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys on your keyboard and press the Delete key once to launch the task manager. You can also search for “Task Manager” in the Windows search box.

Since I prefer the shortest method, I will be right-clicking on my taskbar to launch the Task Manager as shown below

In the new menu, select the “Users” tab. Your username will be listed within the window below.
