No sound on Google Chrome: How to fix sound not working on Google Chrome

Google Chrome is the most popular web browser, it is free, fast, and secure. Even as the best search engine to me, you may find yourself battling with some of its features. Please see how to make Cortana search with a different web browser instead of Bing and Edge, how to make Cortana use your default web browser such as Google Chrome, and how to fix clock synchronization issues in Windows.

You may want to stream a video on YouTube or want to watch a movie on some other website and you suddenly realize that you are unable to hear any sounds from what you are watching or listening to sound not working while watching a video on Chrome.

The problem can be as simple as accidentally muting speakers or having a faulty volume (audio) issue. Chrome sound is often not working because of cookies and cache, or even malware infections. This was my issue as I had to clear cookies off my browser.

On a related note, kindly refer to these related guides: How to enable or disable automatic Live Caption on macOS through Chrome, how to set a browser as default in Windows,

Why you may have this Issue

You may have found yourself in a situation where you are unable to hear the sounds from your video (Youtube) playing on Google Chrome. Your device volume isn’t muted etc. If this is the reason you are here, you are in the right place.

Because the site has been muted, as shown in the image below, sounds will not be delivered to your headset or device speakers on Chrome.

Site is muted

Click on Unmute Site

If these steps above do not help resolve his issues, please ensure the Allow sites to play sound (recommended) option is enabled in the Chrome sound settings:chrome://settings/content/sound.

Alternatively, you can proceed with the steps, click on the three dots (or three horizontal lines) in the upper right-hand corner of the browser, and click on the Settings page.

Upon doing so, the site settings will be accessible. Within the ‘Additional content settings’ section, locate and click on ‘Sounds.’ As depicted below, it is currently unmuted. In case it was muted, you would need to expand the sound settings by clicking on them, as demonstrated below.
