You can easily get bored when you have just a single background for a very long period but with the dynamic wallpaper, you can get to see different images at a certain period of the day. We can use both the background feature in Windows or use a Wallpaper Change Scheduler to handle this task. You can set up a wallpaper that can automatically change with time on both Windows 10 and Windows 11. For instance, if you have five wallpaper images you can set it up so that Windows flip through these images and changes every four hours of the day. You will need to make a folder where you will keep all the images you intend to use for the backgrounds. In this article, you will learn how to add Dynamic Wallpaper controlled by time on Windows 10 and 11. Please see Enhanced Multi-Monitor Experience with Windows 11, What are screensavers? Reasons to use or not use them anymore, and how to use the Widgets feature on Windows 11.

Dynamic Wallpaper controlled by time

If you plan to have your desktop background change every six hours, place four background images in it. The images will need to be properly named according to the current time of the day and Windows will go through the image folder one after the other. If you want a sunset background applied then you will add 1 in front of the sunset image, if you want a night background then add 2 in front of the night image.

This is how you set up the Wallpaper on the Window. If you want to read more on Windows Desktop Wallpaper you can read these: How to create Desktop Windows stickers on Windows 11, how to set Desktop Wallpaper, Prevent access to Registry Editing tools, enable Screen Saver Timeout, and Password Protect the Screensaver via Group Policy, how to prevent Windows Users from changing the Screen Saver via the Registry Settings, how to enable or disable Screen Saver in Windows 10 or Windows 11 via Windows Settings or Group Policy.

Using Windows Feature

1: You can make a new folder and place the background images in it.

2. Next right-click on the desktop and select Personalize or go to Settings > Personalization > Background.

3. On the background drop-down select Slideshow

4. Browse to the folder where you saved all the background images

5. Select the time frame for the images or pictures to change

Using Wallpaper Change Scheduler

6. Aside from the background Windows feature you can make use of Wallpaper Change Scheduler which is a freeware that allows you to change your wallpaper automatically in Windows on a daily or weekly basis.

7. You can search for Wallpaper Change Scheduler and download the setup file and install it. Once installed you can find it at the bottom right-hand corner of your screen. Click here to download Wallpaper Change Scheduler.

8. Click “Add Event” as shown in the below image. A “Schedule New Event” window will pop-up on your screen. On the trigger drop-down select Weekly, Daily, On mouse idle, On mouse move and At logon. Select Day and time and browse to where the background images are saved.

The only issue with this Wallpaper Change Scheduler is that it cannot trigger multiple wallpapers for a single setup but it’s very easy and faster to quickly set up a background image for a specific date and time.
