How to upgrade Veeam ONE to v12.1

Veeam recently released the 12.1 update and this update affects three key components, including Veeam ONE as mentioned in this guide “How to upgrade Veeam Backup and Replication v11 to 12.1“. 

As system Admins, we run into issues while performing upgrades. For me, this was not an exception. Due to this, Veeam could not install the “Client Certificate Mapping Authentication” due to missing components as a result of interruption in the Windows update installation.

What’s new in Veeam ONE 12.1

This feature is new in v12.1. Download Veeam ONE 12.1

The upgrade to version 12.1 is supported starting from Veeam ONE version 10a (build #10.0.2.1094). Kindly Download the ISO file from the Veeam website and run the installer. Once the ISO has been downloaded, you’ll then need to mount it

Upgrade Veeam ONE 12.1

The installer detects a previously installed version and displays the upgrade option. Click Upgrade to proceed. If Autorun is not available or disabled, run the Setup.exe file from the installation image.

Select Veeam ONE 12.1

Click Upgrade Veeam ONE. This will initialize the setup wizard. Please wait for a few minutes.

Read and accept the license agreement, and click “I Accept“.

Veeam ONE Setup wizard will automatically detect components of the previous version installed on the machine. At the Upgrade step of the wizard, review the components to upgrade and click on next.

Choose the license provisioning method

Click one of the two options to provide a license below. I will be using the option to browse the license file locally on my device.

• Sign-in with Veeam — open the Veeam account Sign-in screen to log in with your Veeam account credentials if you already have a registered license on your account.
• Browse the licence file locally — specify the local path to the license file.

Since I also requested a trial licence, I will be using this solely for demonstration. I will have to browse the locations of my license file.

Specify service account settings. This will detect the current account used. For me, I have decided to use my local administrator’s credentials. Therefore, I will change this. Click Next to proceed.

Perform System Configuration Check

At the System Configuration Check step of the wizard, check what prerequisite software is missing.  To learn what software is required for Veeam ONE, see System Requirements.

Select SQL Server instance for VEeam ONE

The next screen is the Database screen, which will detect the currently installed version of SQL and the database. Click Next to keep the current settings.

Note: If you are unable to conenct to the SQL Server, ensure the SQL Server Service is running.

At the Port Configuration step of the wizard, specify connection settings for Veeam ONE Monitoring Service.

In the Veeam ONE monitoring service port field, type a number of the port that will be used to interact with Veeam ONE Monitoring service. The default port number is 2714.

Perform Veeam Upgrade from v11 to v12.1

The upgrade of Veeam ONE is comeplete. Click on Finish as shown below.

Now, the server needs to be restarted for the configuration changes to take effect. Click Yes!

Acess Veeam ONE via Veeam ONE Client or Veeam ONE Web Client

To do this, launch either the Veeam ONE Client or Veeam ONE Web Client

Click on connect to launch Veeam ONE Web Client

Start working with Veeam ONE. You can now start adding servers for monitoing if you have not done so already.
