Download and update Synology DiskStation NAS to DSM 7.3

On October 8, 2025, Synology released DiskStation Manager (DSM) 7.3. This ensures smarter storage management, improved security, and new productivity tools for businesses and home users alike. Therefore, in this article, I will show you the steps on how to download and update Synology DiskStation NAS to DSM 7.3. Please, see how to patch Veeam Backup and replication 12.3.2.3617 to 12.3.2.4165, and how to configure Active Directory-Based Activation (ADBA) for Windows.
Data is growing at an unprecedented pace, and users need solutions that help them manage, process, and unlock its full potential,” said Kenneth Hsu, Director of the System Group at Synology. For the release note, please see this link.
This update addresses multiple security vulnerabilities. DSM 7.3 drops support for Node.js v14, Node.js v16, PHP 7.3, PHP 7.4, and PHP 8.0. To maintain compatibility, DSM automatically updates installed packages to supported versions. For packages that are no longer supported such as exFAT, you must manually remove them before updating.

Synology DSM 7.3 Features
DSM 7.3 equips our customers to handle evolving data challenges on a secure, reliable platform that is ready for AI transformation. Below are some of the new features of DSM 7.3. Here is how to Resize or Expand Proxmox Hard Drive
Flexible Storage Made Easy
Synology continues to provide high-performance, reliable storage systems. The company rigorously tests and validates both hardware and software components, ensuring that DSM users enjoy consistent reliability. Synology is collaborating with third-party drive manufacturers to accelerate testing of additional drives. Take a look at the compatibility policies from this link.
Meanwhile, 25 DiskStation Plus, Value, and J series models running DSM 7.3 support the installation and storage pool creation of non-validated third-party drives. This flexibility allows users to expand their storage while Synology continues to grow its list of officially verified drives.
Smarter Storage Efficiency and Collaboration
DSM 7.3 introduces Synology Tiering, which automatically moves files between storage tiers based on usage patterns. Frequently accessed “hot” data remains on high-performance drives, while rarely used “cold” data moves to cost-effective storage.
Users can customize policies based on modification time or access frequency to control exactly when and how files migrate. Synology now employs three risk indicators which are KEV, EPSS, and LEV to help protect users from emerging threats.
Collaboration tools get a major update as well. Synology Drive adds shared labels for easier file organization, streamlined file requests, and file locking to prevent editing conflicts. MailPlus enhances security, introduces email moderation, and supports domain sharing for unified identity management across distributed infrastructures.

AI-Ready Features with Data Privacy
Since its launch in August 2025, Synology AI Console has been deployed on over 430,000 Synology systems, enabling AI-powered collaboration and management on-premises. DSM 7.3 adds custom data masking and filtering, so users can protect sensitive information locally before sharing it with third-party AI providers.
Synology plans to expand AI integration further by supporting all OpenAI-compatible APIs, giving organizations flexibility to deploy private AI services while maintaining full control over data privacy and security.
