BitLocker Drive Encryption is a data protection feature that integrates with the operating system. It interacts with the operating system and solves the risks of data theft or exposure caused by lost, stolen, or improperly retired devices. In this article, I will show you how to Disable BitLocker on Windows 10. Here are some related guides: How to deploy MBAM for Bitlocker Administration and how to Query MBAM to display the BitLocker Recovery report.

You can also see how to hide the Default BitLocker Drive Encryption item in the Windows Control Panel, and how to check if Microsoft BitLocker Administration and Monitoring (MBAM) is installed on Windows.

Disable BitLocker

To disable BitLocker, locate the Drive and select Manage BitLocker. Here are some similar articles: How to Enable or Disable BitLocker Drive Encryption on Windows,. Also, see how to Force BitLocker Recovery mode: How to unlock BitLocker Protected Drive via MBAM

Steps to diable BitLocker

Please select Turn Off BitLocker. Here is an article on UEFI, TPM, and BitLocker FAQs: Disable Sleep Mode.

When this is done, your data are no longer protected against theft when the device is stolen.

FAQs

Can I swap hard disks on the same computer if BitLocker is enabled on the operating system drive?

Yes, you can swap multiple hard disks on the same computer if BitLocker is enabled. But only if the hard disks were BitLocker-protected on the same computer. The BitLocker keys are unique to the TPM and operating system drive.

So if you want to prepare a backup operating system or data drive in case a disk fails, make sure that they were matched with the correct TPM. You can also configure different hard drives for different operating systems. And then enable BitLocker on each one with different authentication methods (such as one with TPM-only and one with TPM+PIN) without any conflicts.

What Happens to a BitLocker Encrypted Partition When Your OS Partition Is Formatted?

is recommended to decrypt all BitLocker encrypted partitions before formatting your Operating System partition. But if you do not do so and go ahead with the formatting of your OS partition. You will see that all other BitLocker encrypted partitions will be locked once you boot into your computer’s newly clean installed Operating System.

Note: These locked partitions will still be encrypted, and you won’t be able to access their data without the BitLocker recovery keys. To regain access to the locked partitions, use the BitLocker recovery keys associated with each partition.

Be careful when formatting partitions. Ensure you have backups and understand the implications. Formatting the OS partition doesn’t directly affect the BitLocker encryption on other partitions, but it can disrupt your system.
