5 ways to take screenshots on Windows 11

In this article, you will learn 5 ways to take screenshots on Windows 11. A screenshot is also referred to as a screen capture snapshot or screengrab. It is a digital image that shows the contents of a computer display. A screenshot is created by the operating system or software running on the device powering the display. Please see Deploy a Static Website to Azure Storage from VSCode, and How to create a Windows Server reference image using WDS.

Additionally, screenshots can be captured by an external camera, using photography to capture content on the screen. Windows came with a whole lot of features for their Windows 11 upgrade.

While upgrades continue to make Windows easier and easier to use, the transition to the latest upgrades can be a bit overwhelming. In this article, we bring you 5 ways to take screenshots on your new Windows 11 computer.

Take screenshots on Windows 11

There are multiple ways you can capture your screen depending on different types of requirements. Let’s have a look. Here is a very similar post on.

Kindly refer to these related guides: How to make a screenshot on a mac device, and how to make a screenshot of a Windows 10 Screen / Login Screen.

1. Print Screen

You can find the Print Screen button on your keyboards as the PrtSc or PrtSrc. This is the simplest and easiest way for you to take screenshots on your computer.

You simply press the PrintScreen button and Windows takes the screenshot and copies it to the clipboard. Note here that pressing the PrintScreen button itself did not save the screenshot for you, it simply copied the screenshot to your clipboard. You need to decide how you want to save it from then on.

2. Snipping Tool

This is one of the most common and my personal favourite way to take screenshots. If you simply want to take screenshots of a part of your screen, the snipping tool is your best bet

It allows you to crop and edit the screenshot quickly. You can start the snipping tool by pressing the Windows + Shift + S keys.

3. Windows Key + PrtSc

We discussed earlier that simply pressing the PrintScreen button does not mean that your screenshot was saved as an image file.

If you want to quickly capture the entire screen and save it as an image. You can press the Windows + PrtScr keys and Windows will save the screenshot as an image file along with copying it to your clipboard.

Also, see the differences between Capture image, Discover image, Install and Boot images (Windows PE), and How to create a capture image on Windows Deployment Services.

4. Alt + PrtScr

In case you simply want to capture your entire screen while committing the taskbar, you can do that easily by pressing the Alt + PrtScr keys.

5. Windows + G

Windows 11 has native screen recording software that you can start by pressing the Windows + G keys. It is by far the most powerful tool windows has for screen captures.

To start screen recording you need to start the tool and then click on the capture icon. You can also do this via a shortcut by pressing the Ctrl + Alt + R keys.

These are all the ways you can take screenshots in your Windows 11. You can always download and install third-party applications like GreenShot to help you manage and take screenshots.
