How to update Veeam Backup and Replication [VBR]

Veeam Backup and Replication is an advanced data protection and disaster recovery solution designed for virtual, physical, and cloud environments. It enables you to backup, restore your backup when disaster strikes. In this article, we will discuss how to update Veeam Backup and Replication [VBR]. Note: Before installing Veeam Backup & Replication 12.1 updates, always ensure that the prerequisites are met.

Apply Missing VBR Updates

Click on missing updates as shown below to see the updates that is required.

To download and apply these updates. The first steps would be to navigate o the KB article to download the updates.

Note: Click on the link and you will be automatically redirected.

You will be required to authenticate very shortly. Please see how to achieve 3-2-1 rule with SOBR on Synology or OOTBI and Wasabi.

The latest update at the time of writing this article is being downloaded.

Please extract the executable file from the downloaded archive.

Run the executable file to launch the update wizard.

Note: Stop all jobs and disable them in the Veeam Backup & Replication Console, Stop all restore processes in the Veeam Backup & Replication Console, last but not the least, Close the Veeam Backup & Replication Console.

Run Veeam Backup and Replication Update

These steps are very basic and all you just have to do is walk through the wizard basically. Click Next to proceed.

Select the Update remote components automatically and click on “Install” as shown below.

As you can see below, we have successfully patched VBR and brought it to v12.1.2.172. Click on Finish to to close this console.

Note: During the update procedure, Veeam Backup & Replication may recreate Windows Firewall rules with default settings. If you have manually modified Windows Firewall rules before installing a new cumulative patch, reapply those modifications after the update.

On the “component update”, click on Apply and this completes the update process and click on Finish when complete.
