Remove Nextcloud Desktop Client

The Nextcloud Desktop Client is a tool to synchronise files from the Nextcloud Server with your computer. The removal of apps is usually very straightforward on macOS. But in the case of Nextcloud, this is not the case. Therefore, in this article, we shall discuss how to correctly uninstall Nextcloud from Mac. Please see how to install Nextcloud Desktop client on Mac, How To Install Nextcloud on a Linux system, and how to locate and edit the host file on macOS.

Also, see How to install Nextcloud on Mac. Here is a guide on “Ping request could not find the host: Verify if the name is entered correctly”.

Remove Next Cloud Desktop Client from macOS

When you navigate to the Nextcloud community page, you will find a lot of other users complaining about this issue. As you can see below, when you try to delete the Nextcloud app, the following error will be prompted “The item “Nextcloud” can’t be moved to the Bin because it’s open”.

The item “Nextcloud” cannot be uninstalled or moved to the Bin because it’s open

Even when you quit the Nextcloud Desktop app, the application is indeed running, as shown below.

Note: Restarting your PC will never fix this issue. Even when you log in with the account with administrative privileges, you will also not be able to remove the desktop app from your device.

Please see how to upgrade Veeam Backup and Replication 12.3, and how to install Veeam Backup Console on a Jump Server.

Kill the Nextcloud Process using Activity Monitor

Open Activity Monitor (Cmd + Space, type Activity Monitor, press Enter). Also, you could open the Launchpad and search for Activity Monitor.

Search for the process by name or CPU/memory usage and double-click on it. As you can see, I will quit all these processes.

Quit Processes

Select “Force Quit” as shown below.

Forcequit

As you can see below, you will be prompted to enter your password in order to move the app to the Bin.
