WhatsApp

WhatsApp from Meta is a FREE messaging and video calling app. It’s used by over 2B people in more than 180 countries. The problem of accidentally deleting important WhatsApp messages can now be avoided with WhatsApp chat recovery on both iOS and Android devices. In this article, we will discuss how to retrieve deleted WhatsApp messages on iPhone. Kindly refer to these related guides: How to add WhatsApp UWP on Windows 11, and WhatsApp Starts Rolling Out End-to-End Encrypted Backups On Clouds..

To retrieve deleted WhatsApp messages, you first need to have Chat Backup enabled in the WhatsApp settings. WhatsApp offers several backup frequencies in Under Auto Backup: Daily, Weekly, Monthly, and Off.

Note: WhatsApp will only retain the most recent backup file in iOS and the two latest backup files in Android. With this in mind, you should be able to decide how frequently you wish to take your backup.

  • These daily auto backups make it easy to recover messages soon after deletion.
  • The weekly auto backups allow you to go further back in time to recover deleted WhatsApp messages from less than seven days ago at the expense of losing recent chat messages. Because I do not have critical messages to protect, I am fine with this option.

Steps to Recover deleted WhatsApp Messages

In order to recover your deleted chat or messages, you will have to uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp. You can quickly do this from the App store. When you reinstall the app, you will be prompted to restore your message history from the backup file.

Select Restore and everything from the latest backup will be restored. Kindly enter your password to proceed as shown below.

This method of recovering deleted WhatsApp messages works on both Android and iOS but it has to be within your selected auto-backup frequency.

Restore Backup from iCloud

Note: if you skip this step and want to restore at a later stage, this restoration will not be possible. Click on Restore chats as shown in the image below.

As you can see above, the chats are being restored. Therefore if your auto backup frequency is set to daily, then you can easily recover any deleted chats before the next backup occurs.

Now that the messages are being restored, you can proceed with the rest settings. Accept all prompts such as access to your contacts etc.

Do not forget to set all WhatsApp settings once again such as your WhatsApp backup! Below are some points to note regarding WhatsApp backup.

Note:

  • WhatsApp chat histories aren’t stored on WhatsApp servers.
  • Media and messages you back up aren’t protected by WhatsApp end-to-end encrypted backup.
  • We can’t retrieve any deleted messages for you.
