10.0.17763.1 error

The error “Windows 10 Setup 1809 build 10.0.17763.1 is not supported” occurs when the version of Windows 10 and Windows Server 2019 you are re-installing or upgrading is not compatible with the current installation media or the specific upgrade path you are attempting. Therefore, we will show you the steps to resolve this issue. Please see how to install and uninstall Docker Desktop on Windows 10 and Windows Server, and how to build Docker Images with GitLab CI.

Reason for the error “build is not Supported”

As already explained above, the error is straightforward. By the way, I thought this issue was only present in 2018 and 2019. Unfortunately, that is not the case, as I am using an old retail ISO from 2019. This is because the evaluation copy caused a lot of issues and I do not have a new ISO file. So the issue crept in again in 2024.

Furthermore, this message signifies that the setup you started has build 17763.1 and this is no longer supported. But I also find it interesting that this is recognized.

Solution

Simply disconnect the internet connection. This step involves removing the internet cable or disabling the NIC.

You should be able to re-install or upgrade Windows Server 2019 after performing the above steps. As you can see, I have my network cards.

Disable Adapaters

No internet connection anymore

Disable network connection

Run setup again, the re-installation or upgrade should succeed

Installation is in progress. I returned to the setup the next morning 🙂

As you can see from the about page. The installation succeded.

Alternatively, you can simply unpack the contents into the ‘sources’ folder on the installation media and overwrite the existing files. And the installation or upgrade will succeed.

Conclusion

Note: With the latest Windows 10 or Windows Server 2019 installation media. this error will not be present. Microsoft releases updates and improvements, and using the latest media ensures compatibility with newer hardware and resolves known issues.
