view or change programs that run on startup on Windows

Startup apps and programs are some convenient ways to save the time and effort of having to start a program manually upon computer startup. However, you might have experienced that when many programs try to start at once, your computer may be extremely slow down and can take forever to boot up successfully. See this guide on “how to make more space available on the Windows taskbar and how to disable Taskbar Web Search in Windows 10 via GPO and Windows Registry, and how to launch an application automatically during startup on Windows“. In this guide, you will learn how to view or change programs that run on startup on Windows.

Removing some startup programs is one of the most effective ways to increase your device speed (load time and get rid of programs and also get rid of unwanted programs. Below are the steps to remove some unwanted programs that are affecting your device startup speed etc. Here are some articles I have written on Windows Taskbar, “how to hide Taskbar in Windows 10, how to make the taskbar appear on one or both displays in Windows, and how to hide the Action Center Taskbar Icon In Windows 10,

Launch the Startup App Window

When you open Task Manager and click on the Startup tab to manage auto-start entries. To disable startup programs. Right-click the taskbar at the bottom of the screen and click Task Manager on the window that opens as shown below

This will open up the Task Manager Window as shown below. Click on the Start-Up tab at the top of the task manager window. Click on the Status box to list all of the programs that status on your device when the PC starts up.

If the startup status of the selected program is disabled as shown above for Cortona and you wish to have it run on startup on your computer, select the option of Enable as shown above.

Alternatively, you could right-click on the program as shown below and select Enabled it as well.

But if the startup status of the program is enabled but you want to disable it from starting up on Windows startup, select the option of Disable as shown below.

Alternatively, you could right-click on the program as shown below and select Disable it as well. The following guide discusses how to stop programs from running (launching) automatically upon startup on macOS.

To view or change programs that run on startup via Windows Settings

Search for Windows settings or launch Windows settings as shown below.

This will open up the Windows Settings App as shown below. Click on Apps

From the startup window, you can change the status from disabled to enabled by switching the button on or off as shown below.

Note: You can also change a program startup (enabled or disabled) via the “Startup Folder”. This is the best way to run custom apps on Windows startup. Below are the needed steps.

Open the run dialog box as shown below by hitting the Windows Key+R. Next, type shell:startup and click OK.

This will open the Windows Explorer window. Now, all you need to do is create a shortcut here for anything and it will open when your PC starts up. For more of these steps, please see this guide “how to launch an application automatically during startup on Windows“.

You can also use Autorun from SysInternal to search for all startup programs in Windows 10. See the following hyperlinks on how to run and use SysInternal tools how to download and use Windows SysInternals tools locally and how to use SysInternals Live Tools. You may want to see the steps from Microsoft.

I hope you found this blog post helpful. Now, you have learned how to view or change programs that run on startup on Windows. If you have any questions, please let me know in the comment session.
