Auto Logon Error “Username and password specified is not valid”

Posted on 06/02/202001/10/2024 Christian By Christian No Comments on Auto Logon Error “Username and password specified is not valid”
Auto Logon Error

Autologon enables you to easily configure Windows’ built-in autologon mechanism. This prevents the user from waiting to enter their name and password. In this article, we shall discuss how to fix “Auto Logon Error “The username and password specified is not valid”. Kindly refer to these interesting guides: How to download and use Windows SysInternals tools locally, how to disable auto login in Windows, how to enable automatic logon on Windows 10 via the Registry, how to download and use Windows SysInternals tools locally, and how to Delete AWS S3 Bucket and its Objects using  AWS CLI in Linux.

Note: Windows uses the credentials you enter with Autologon, which are encrypted in the Registry, to log on to the specified user automatically.

Please see How to disable auto login in Windows, how to Disable or Enable Auto log on in Windows, and how to Enable Automatic Logon via Windows Registry.

Why was “this error “invalid Username and Password prompted?

Note: This could be a result of different reasons. For me, I found out that the device was not joined to the Domain (The username and password specified).

Please see “Disable SQL Auto Close: Auto Close is enabled for both ePO and ePO Events Databases. Also, see how to Enable Automatic Logon on Windows 10.

The Fix

I had to join the device to the domain. Do not just assume that the device is already joined to the domain.

The device joined to the Domain and Auto Logon worked correctly.

Username and Password Error
