M365 Password Reset

Microsoft 365 (M365) is a subscription service that lets you run your organization in the cloud. This way, Microsoft takes care of the IT (underlying infrastructure) for you. In this article, we shall discuss how to reset Microsoft 365 User Password. Please, see How to reset and reinstall Windows 10 locally, how to Change expired RDP Password: How to change a password on a Remote Desktop session, and how to Reset and reinstall Windows 10 from the cloud and how to recover your Windows 10 when you cannot boot to Windows.

Note: This is not a self-service password reset performed by a user. Rather, a password reset performed by an administrator.

That is, resetting a password in Microsoft 365 is possible by administrators in M365. While users with self-service enabled can do it themselves.

Also, see How to create Microsoft 365 Account, Microsoft 365 Backup: Why is it imperative to protect M365, and Veeam Backup Deployment options for Microsoft 365 Data.

M365 Password Reset

To reset a user password, please navigate to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center . Then click on Users and on Active users. As you can see, we only have a few users here.

So, I will select the User I wish to perform password reset on and click on “Rest Password”.

Reset Password M365

Follow the instructions on the Reset password page to autogenerate a new password for the user or create one for them, and then select Reset password.

Reset Option

As you can see, the password has been rest successfully. You can print the password details to a PDF, store it in a secure location, and share them with your users securely.

Note: To enhance security, Microsoft will remove the ability to send user account details and passwords by email from within the Microsoft 365 Admin Center starting August 30, 2024. Instead, you should print the account information to a PDF file and share it with users through a secure method.
